This is an exciting opportunity for all pupils as they will now be able to work on their independent life skills such as making beds and washing and ironing clothes. Some classes have already had the chance to use the apartment during their weekly lesson.

The path up was snowy and it took some excellent fitness and nerve to get to the top. The views from the top were stunning. Obviously they had many snowball fights on the way back down!

• Thursday 5 December 2024 Work Experience Taster Adam, Harry and Kaleb got their first taste of real work experience today when they visited Pebbles Cafe at Mary Rose Academy. They took part in a four hour shift of baking, preparing, chopping and cleaning and all three absolutely loved it! They impressed the staff that much with their hard work and attitude that they have already been booked in for a three day work experience in February. Well done boys!

• Friday 29 November 2024 NHS 'Together against racism' event Tara went to the 'Together against racism in the NHS' event this week. The event was developed to help local Trusts become actively anti-racist organisations and to better understand what needs improving and what needs to change in their mental health services.

They engaged with pupils from secondary schools across Hampshire and got to speak to different guest speakers, practicing their teamwork and leadership skills. They all were an asset to Redwood Park Academy and can’t wait to go again!

They all turned up in style and enjoyed a wonderful 3-course meal surrounded by their friends and Redwood staff who supported them throughout their years with us.

• Friday 12 July 2024 Playground Proms concert On Thursday 4th July, we enjoyed an amazing concert performed by Graffiti Classics from Playground Proms. They played a variety of classical music with a twist, giving us the opportunity to dance and get close up to the instruments. Lots of fun was had by all!

• Friday 21 June 2024 STEM Event STEMunity organised an amazing event at The Portsmouth Academy. Professionals from RC Vision, The Royal Navy Atlantic rowing team and The Drone Rules provided 3 interactive activities. The pupils taking STEM as an option in key stage 4 attended the event to celebrate their success in completing the qualification and to have exposure to STEM careers.

• Thursday 6 June 2024 D-Day Celebrations The highlight the week has been our D-Day celebrations! A group of pupils attended the National Memorial Service at Southsea Common on Wednesday 5th June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and even got to see some of the royal family members!

• Tuesday 14 May 2024 SATs & SATs Experience Our courageous Year 6 pupils have started their SATs and SATs Experience this week. Yesterday they took on the Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation assessments and absolutely nailed it! Today is English Reading, Wednesday is Maths and for those pupils taking the SATs papers they have Maths again on Thursday.

• Thursday 9 May 2024 Ferny Crofts Residential Our Year 9 and 10 pupils had a wonderful time at the Ferny Crofts Activity Centre on residential. They learned lots of new skills and had lots of fun, taking part in a range of really exciting activities throughout the week including skiing and high-ropes! The group also took a trip to Beaulieu Motor Museum!

• Thursday 2 May 2024 Fareham College Taster Session (Hairdressing) On Monday, 6 year 10 and 11 pupils went to Fareham College to take part in a Taster session in Hairdressing. Everyone was quite nervous but once they started they were incredible. All pupils were lead through how to wash, blow dry and straighten hair and also how to use the straighteners to curl hair. They all enjoyed themselves and the course tutor was very impressed with them all. Well done, and good luck to our future hairdressers.

• Friday 26 April 2024 Portsmouth Student Leadership Network Event It was great to attend the second Portsmouth Student Leadership Network event with some of the year 8 pupils. The pupils got to work alongside other secondary schools in Hampshire and learn some great leadership skills such as positive communication skills and the importance of understanding anfd wokring as part of a team. They won a prize for the teamwork tasks and stoof up and made a small presentation in front of the other pupils. Well done Year 8 - you represented Redwood Park Academy fantastically!

• Thursday 7 March 2024 Moor Farm On Thursday, Museum and Mountbatten class visited Moor Farm, supported by the Countryside Trust. Pupils learned about the workings of a dairy farm and sustainable farming. The pupils absolutely loved the day! They got to meet the herd, see how milk is taken from a cow and the journey of products made from milk. The children were particularly excited about touching the calves. At the end of the day they’d made such good friends with a calf that it escaped and tried to come back to Redwood with us!

• Wednesday 11 January 2023 Lower School Spring Term Stunning Start 2023 This term lower school have started their new topic Horrible Histories with ‘being a Pirate’ day. Being a Pirate is all about adventures at sea, exotic islands and buried treasure! Ash, Oak, Elm and Willow classes have learnt a lot about being a Pirate- they found out about Black Beard, why Pirates had skull and crossbones as their flag (called the Jolly Roger), what it was like on the ships (they killed 400 rats on one journey!) and the dangerous weapons they used. Pupils got very creative in class making treasure maps, pirate hats, cutlasses and ships and practice walking the plank in forest school.

• Tuesday 13 December 2022 Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium Lower School visited Winchester Science Centre . . . .We started on the upper floor, there was lots to enjoy and explore in the sound, hearing and vibration exhibition. We climbed into a massive guitar and felt it vibrate when we plucked the strings, created buildings of Lego to withstand the vibrations of an earthquake and explored the sounds on a building site.

• Thursday 10 November 2022 Military Mentors Yesterday J visited the Military Mentors in Gosport. Military Mentors provide Post-Sixteen education for young people who hope to have a career in the Armed Forces as well as taking Year 10 and 11 pupils on day release from school. Their curriculum includes; maths and English, current affairs, teamwork and physical fitness. In addition, they have frequent visits from current serving members of the Armed Forces. J enjoyed finding out about the training on offer and what he needs to do in order to join the Army.

• Thursday 3 November 2022 The Famous Five Theatre Trip Some of our lower school pupils had the opportunity to visit Chichester Festival Theatre to take part in a workshop and see a performance of The Famous Five. In the workshop we got on stage with pupils from other schools and created scenes about friends going on adventures. We got to hear about how the Famous Five went from a novel written by Enid Blyton to a musical. We got to look at the script and how it tells everyone what they need to do, including the sound and light effects and where they need to be.

• Friday 16 September 2022 Lower School Autumn Term Stunning Start Lower school discovered the Earth's layers this week to kick start their topic Extreme Earth. We found out that our planet has a crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth. It is like the skin of an apple and is extremely thin compared to the other layers. The crust is about 10 miles deep and is made up of rock and other loose materials. The mantle is the next largest layer, and it is the largest – an estimated 1,800 miles of solid hot rock. The outer core exists under the mantle and is composed of about 1,400 miles of liquid molten lava, which consists of iron and nickel. The inner core is the center-most layer of the Earth and is a solid ball of metal.

• Thursday 28 April 2022 Egg Rolling Competition Just before Easter, Redwoodcontinued with the annual egg rolling competition, this is a highly competitive event that the pupils take very seriously! Pupils decorate a hard boiled egg and then roll these down a tube piping to see who can get the closest to a pin to win an Easter egg. This year we had eggs decorated like staff, teenage mutant ninja turtles and some that had been wrapped in cellotape (very sensible!). Tomorrow we are looking forwards to the staff competition as well!

• Monday 4 April 2022 Young Person's Mental Health Event Redwood park school had the amazing opportunity to attend a very important event at Portsmouth Guildhall. Four pupils from Pupil Voice were selected to go to the Young Person's Mental Health Event on Friday 25th March 2022. There were a number of secondary schools all around school that attended and shared their thoughts and ideas on what Portsmouth does for the young people. They reflected on what is working well for young people and their mental health, as well as putting ideas forward for what they would like to see more of. CAHMS, Portsmouth Council, KOOTH, UNLOC and Solent NHS were some of the agencies that attended and listened to what the young people of Portsmouth needed and what they wanted to see moving forward.
