If you are considering training to teach (or even if you haven’t, read on!), then please see below for all of the different routes we can support you with.
The Basingstoke SCITT have been running teacher training since 2014 in Basingstoke
with Dove House Academy as our lead school. Many of their staff have trained with us, and indeed some are even mentors now for current trainees. As part of the Trust, we are also able to offer placements in the other Academies, which is really exciting and taps into the passion of applicants who want to work in specialist settings.
So if you hold a degree, or are working towards one, please read on for the possible
routes where we can help you make that next step to Qualified Teacher Status.
The Core Route
You could train to teach in your current school as your main placement. Your
central training would give you the coverage of the core knowledge and skills need to qualify for mainstream, but your current setting could support with how to apply them in specialist settings.
The Salaried/Apprenticeship Route
Again, you could train to teach in your current school, and largely the route follows that of the core route but the funding models can sometimes be advantageous. For example, for some subjects your tuition fees would be paid, and for in some circumstances if you did not qualify for a bursary due to a lower class of degree, you could still be paid at an unqualified teacher rate during your training year.
The Assessment-Only Route
If you have been teaching as an unqualified teacher for two years, or are nearly there with the two years, we can potentially put you through the Assessment-Only route.
